"Underside. Fotografien von Doug Birkenheuer"
 

Die "Underside"-Serie besteht aus seinen neuesten Aufnahmen. Sie zei-gen Menschen aus einer eher ungewöhnlichen Perspektive: von unten. Der Amerikaner betont damit die Teile des Körpers, die sonst in der Foto-grafie eher unbeachtet bleiben, weil sie zum Boden gerichtet sind, und leuchtet sie spontan aus mit Humor, Begierde und Voyeurismus.

The "Underside" series is an exploration into People, not just the human form. It is a celebration of humanity and sexuality. Unlike some of my previous figure work this series is more about the people, not their bodies. Being underneath people and looking up at them is a comment on the experience of and admiration I have for these people.
This exploration from under is also focusing on the dark areas of the body which mostly face the ground and making light of them, all the while giving them a raw and spontaneous quality. All images were shot on film and are mostly full-frame.
I look at this body of work as an exploration into the "energy" of both me, and my vision, and the people I work with.
